Do & Stay
Our Recommendations for Hermanus
Hermanus (and the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley) is a place very close to both Michael and Kyla’s hearts. Over the years, Kyla has spent many happy weekends and holidays here with family and friends which have often been centred around long, laughter-filled meals and perhaps a little overindulgence in the valley’s wonderful wine farms and restaurants. More recently Hermanus has grown to be a special slice of South Africa to Michael too where this Joburg boet has fully leaned into life as a barefoot coastal town bruh.
While you’re here, we hope that you get the opportunity to explore the coastline, along with the many wonderful restaurants, walks, and nearby wine farms.
Please see some of our favourites below, this list is non-exhaustive, and if you need any specific recommendations please do reach out.
Please note that Hermanus has a strict no drinking and driving policy, and it is very much enforced. We’ve included a few transport options below that we strongly suggest you take advantage of—trust us, the holding cell is not part of the wedding itinerary.
What to Do
Our favourite walks, restaurants, and wine farms in the area
Wine farms
We recommend Creation, Newton Johnson, and Bartho Eksteen which are all in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley. If you fancy venturing further out we also enjoy Stanford Wines and Spookfontein.
Restaurants
Bientang's Cave is an institution in Hermanus (reservations will most probably be needed) and a must-go, we also enjoy Lizette's, Fick's Pool, and De Vette Mossel.
Oscars in town is great for a brekkie!
Hikes and walks
The cliff path is a must-do walk while in the area. We also love Grotto beach for longer beach walks and the "zig zag" mountain hike that takes you toa viewpoint over the whole of Hermanus. If you need any directions, please let us know.
